Using the latest technologies, modern equipment and most innovative R&D techniques, we are fast becoming the leading integrated agricultural management company in Malaysia.

Our company excels in the cultivation of fruit crops that is reflected in the favourable growth and high quality of our produce. Dato’ Ramalingam Pillai

Managing Director

Dato’ Ramalingam Pillai is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Lotus Group of Companies. Dato’ Rama also serves as the Managing Director of Thamarai Holdings Sdn Bhd.

Since the inception of the Lotus Group, Dato’ Rama has been a driving force to Lotus’ success and played a pivotal role in building the company’s portfolio of businesses which include – Hotels & Resorts, Food & Beverage, Movie Distribution & Cinemas, Healthcare, Construction, Plantation, Convenience Stores and Real Estate. He is responsible for leading the company’s group operations including site operations and quality control, amongst others.

Dato’s Rama is highly respected for his leadership skills and is profoundly acclaimed for his vision and expertise in transforming and reinventing companies for sustainable and profitable growth.

He has been recognized for contribution to humanitarian charities across Malaysia. Dato Ramalingam Pillai is also the Honorable Chairman of the Malaysian Indian Restaurant Owners (PRIMAS).

Dr. Vijay Ramalingam Pillai graduated with a medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland.

From a young age, Dr. Vijay actively involved himself in the family’s agriculture business, particularly palm oil. Dr. Vijay has always envisioned to transform and diversify the family’s agriculture division from a monocrop to a multi-crop plantation. Dr. Vijay has travelled to Thailand, Indonesia, India, China and throughout Malaysia to learn about various agriculture practices and the latest agrotech innovation.

Dr. Vijay intends to implement sustainable farming methods and integrate technology with agriculture. His recent project is the conversion of a 2,768 acres rubber estate into a multi-crop plantation consisting of Durian, Coconut, Jackfruit and cash crops like Chilli and Cucumber, among others.

Dr. Vijay firmly believes that technological change will be the major driving force in increasing agricultural productivity and revolutionizing the industry in Malaysia.

Ram Pillai

Chief Operating Officer

Ram currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer for Lotus Plantations and leads the Scientific Advisory Committee for technology integration with startups, academia partnerships and research & development into the use of Artificial Intelligence in farm management for Durians, Coconuts, Jackfruits and Papayas. Ram is also a Non-Independent Executive Director of Lotus Coconut Plantations with plans to develop the first fully-integrated vertical supply chain stack for coconuts in Malaysia.

Ram previously co-founded a biotechnology-focused startup in London called Multus Media that aimed to produce a novel low-cost, serum-free and food-grade culture media to aid the cellular agriculture (lab-grown/clean meat) industry. Notable awards (all in 2020): 1) Winner of the McKinsey Venture Academy, 2) National Champion and Global Top-16 Finalist in the Climate KIC Climate Launchpad competition by the European Insitute of Innovation and Technology, and 3) Regional final winner and Global finalist of the Hult Prize Foundation.

Following this, Ram had a stint at 500 Startups in the Investments Team, as well as aiding a few projects under Capital Formation. In addition to this, Ram co-developed the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) policy and framework.

Ram graduated with a Distinction in a Master of Science (MSc) in Genetics, Drug Development and Stem Cell Research from Imperial College London, and was seconded to the prestigious Francis Crick Institute in Kings Cross, London where he developed a novel algorithm to quantify the spatial localisation and distribution of cells and proteins in the tissue. Prior to that, Ram obtained First Class Honours in his Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Biotechnology from the University of Manchester.

INFRASTRUCTURE

A large proportion of our initial capital was allocated for the infrastructure development of our plantation.

This includes vast road networks with width spanning between 20 to 40 feet. A fully operational 20 acres Operations Center with a further 10 acres allocated for future development. Construction of border security & fencing. A drainage network which covers over 1,700 acres of farm land and piping for our sprinkler systems at 1,400 acres (as of March 2023).
